Mary Helen Hoque is a Learning Experience (LX) Designer with an expansive background in educational development and consulting, classroom instruction, assessment, and research. At CETLOE, she collaborates with faculty and other designers to create online learning experiences that meet the needs of learners with creativity and empathy.
Mary Helen designs to meet people where they are and always seeks opportunities to reduce barriers and increase access. She has 7+ years’ experience in instructional design and educational development and consulting; prior to that, she was an award-winning instructor of undergraduate courses in music history at the University of Georgia. Mary Helen also holds an Instructional Designer Certificate and an Accessibility Badge from the Online Learning Consortium, the leading professional organization for advancing quality online learning. She is a certified trainer for the Online SUNY Course Quality Rubric (OSCQR). Mary Helen is regularly invited to facilitate professional development workshops for university and community partners on topics such as inclusive teaching practices, Universal Design for Learning, growth-minded assessment, experiential learning, active learning strategies, and lesson planning.
Mary Helen has received an M.A. in Musicology from University of Georgia and a B.A in Vocal Performance from Piedmont University. In addition, she has certificates in women’s studies, university teaching, and instructional design. Currently, she is a Ph.D. candidate in Musicology at the University of Georgia.
When she isn’t working hard to put the dog food on the table, Mary Helen enjoys going on adventures with her husband and her dog, Henry. She’s also never met a meal or recipe she wasn’t excited to try.
