Viviana Cortes has been working at CETLOE since 2013 where she coordinates the teacher training program for International Teaching Assistants (ITAs). She is a Professor in the Department of Applied Linguistics and English as a Second Language. Her research interests include English grammar, corpus-based discourse analysis, formulaic language, and academic writing, as well as English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and the use of English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI). She received a Fulbright International Scholar Award in 2022 to conduct a research study about the English language needs of students and faculty in higher education in Brazil in the spring 2023. She has presented her research at numerous local and international conferences. She has co-edited two books, and her research articles can be found in most top journals in the field. She is currently one of the editors of English for Specific Purposes.
